Qubik | Field IV 28 VII 09 [2009]
'Fields' is a series of process-led drawings which explore organisation and disorder through the use of generative systems. 'IV 28 VII 09' consists of an array of 64 fixed lines, whose individual angle and length are determined using Poisson distribution.
Poisson distribution is a discrete probability distribution that expresses the probability of a desired number of events occurring within a fixed window of time. It is widely used to model random points in time and space, such as the times of radioactive emissions, the number of times file requests arrive at a web server or the times when customers arrive at a shopping centre.
A sketch for this work was built with Processing and can be viewed online at: http://joe.qubik.com/processing/1/
